2022-01-11 23:09

On January 11, 2022, President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Xi Jinping pointed out, since last year, China-Indonesia relations have been moving forward despite the headwinds while maintaining stability under the circumstance of the COVID-19 pandemic. The two countries have launched a high-level dialogue cooperation mechanism, and established a new pattern of bilateral cooperation on the "four-wheel drive" of political, economic, cultural and maritime affairs. China and Indonesia are both major developing countries and share similar ideals and beliefs in pursuing national development and seeking happiness for people. Facing profound changes and a pandemic both unseen in a century, the two countries should strive to build a community with a shared future. The key to achieving this goal is to get concrete things done well one after another.

Xi Jinping stressed, the two sides should work together to fight the pandemic and set a good example of health cooperation. China will continue to cooperate with Indonesia throughout the vaccine industrial chain and on drug research and development, help Indonesia build a regional vaccine production center, and work with Indonesia to improve global public health governance and build a global community of health for all on the basis of jointly fighting the pandemic. The two sides should pursue common development and set a role model for practical cooperation. The two sides should integrate the Belt and Road cooperation with China's fostering of a new development paradigm and Indonesia's medium- and long-term national development plan, and advance cooperation in a coordinated manner in the post-pandemic era. The two countries should build the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway with high quality, earnestly implement such key programs as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor and the Two Countries Twin Parks, and foster such new growth areas as new energy, low-carbon development, the digital economy and maritime cooperation. China will actively participate with all its strength in anything that is conducive to promoting Indonesia's development and deepening China-Indonesia cooperation.

Xi Jinping emphasized, China attaches great importance to Indonesia's role in regional and international affairs, and stands ready to work with Indonesia to implement the consensus reached at last year's ASEAN-China Special Summit to Commemorate the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, promote regional economic recovery and safeguard regional peace and stability. Noting that China and Indonesia hold the chairs of BRICS and the G20 respectively this year, he said that China is ready to work with Indonesia to practice true multilateralism, actively implement the Global Development Initiative, safeguard the interests of emerging market and developing countries, and contribute to promoting global economic recovery and improving global economic governance.

Joko said, I would like to extend my congratulations on the successful convening of the sixth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and believe that under the leadership of General Secretary Xi Jinping, the Chinese people will continue to create new glories in the future. Last year, bilateral trade and investment between Indonesia and China grew rapidly, and health and medical cooperation, especially cooperation in vaccine production and drug research and development, has achieved remarkable results, with 80 percent of Indonesia's vaccines from China. Smooth progress has been made in the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, which is expected to enter into operation as scheduled. Good relations between Indonesia and China are based on mutual respect and win-win cooperation. Indonesia is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in economy, trade, pandemic response and other fields, actively promote the Belt and Road cooperation, and build the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor and the Two Countries Twin Parks. Indonesia welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in the country and carry out cooperation in high technology and green areas. During its G20 presidency this year, Indonesia is willing to work closely with China to push the G20 to play a positive role in promoting international solidarity and global economic recovery.  Iwish the Chinese people a happy Spring Festival and the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games a success!
