On November 29, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Mauritanian Foreign Minister Ismael Ould Cheikh Ahmed in Dakar when attending the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Wang Yi said that China and Mauritania have always respected and trusted each other and have built an unbreakable and rock-solid "ironclad" friendship. China appreciates Mauritania's compliance with the one-China principle and its support for China in safeguarding state sovereignty and national dignity. China will, as in the past, support Mauritania in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions.

Ahmed said that the profound friendship between the two countries has left a deep imprint on the generations growing up after Mauritania's national independence. Pursuing friendship with China has always been Mauritania's firm choice in foreign policies. Mauritania supports China in safeguarding its sovereignty and core interests and resolutely opposes any act of intervening in China's internal affairs.

Ahmed said that President Xi Jinping's announcement of providing Africa with one billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines is of groundbreaking importance to international anti-pandemic cooperation. We are greatly encouraged by this news, and Mauritania expects further support from China.

Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping announced China's large-scale vaccine assistance to Africa. We will bridge the immunization gap, eliminate "immunity inequity" and fulfill our promise of making COVID-19 vaccines a global public good with concrete actions. China is ready to continue its support and assistance to Mauritania until the pandemic is completely defeated in the country.
