On September 9, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held video talks with Lao Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith.

Wang Yi said, so far this year, China and Laos have gathered strength to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind under the strategic guidance of the top leaders of the two parties and both countries. Standing at a new historical starting point of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the successful convening of the 11th National Congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the two sides have supported and helped each other fight the COVID-19 pandemic, co-celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, and witnessed substantial growth in bilateral trade. Besides, the China-Laos railway is about to complete, and the China-Laos community with a shared future is full of vitality. China is willing to continuously fight the pandemic with Laos shoulder to shoulder and jointly protect the life safety and health of the two peoples. Both sides should continue to carry out celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and the Year of China-Laos Friendship to strengthen people-to-people and local exchanges and cooperation, increasingly enrich the connotation of the China-Laos community with a shared future, and pass on the China-Laos friendship from generation to generation.

Noting that China and Laos are not only comrades but also brothers, Wang Yi said, China firmly supports the new party and government leaders of Laos in exercising governance smoothly, firmly supports Laos in consolidating the party leadership and the socialist system, and firmly supports Laos in safeguarding stability, developing economy and improving the people's livelihood. China stands ready with Laos to defend political and development security, and opposes the actions of major powers outside the region in bullying the small and weak and instigating "color revolutions". Under the current circumstances, the two sides should work together to cope with the once-in-a-century changes, enhance solidarity and cooperation, safeguard regional peace and stability, and uphold international fairness and justice.

Saleumxay said, as a socialist community with a shared future, Laos is truly happy for the great achievements made by China, and always remembers the selfless help from China to support Laos' economic development and pandemic response. Laos attaches great importance to learning from the centennial and governance experiences of the CPC, and is ready to work with China to fully implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and both countries, jointly guard against and resist the interferences from external forces, push for new progress in the construction of the Laos-China Economic Corridor and ensure the opening of the Laos-China railway within this year, so as to add splendor to the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and benefit the two peoples.

Both sides share the view that against the resurgence and prolongation of COVID-19, the top priority for the international community is to fight the pandemic in solidarity, resolutely opposing the politicization of COVID-19 origin-tracing and interference in other countries' internal affairs on the pretext of human rights.

Both sides also carried out in-depth communication and coordination on regional hotspot issues and regional cooperation, and agreed to further deepen the development of China-ASEAN relations and jointly foster a safe and stable neighboring environment, with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN Dialogue Relations as an opportunity.

Both sides hold that the video meeting is quite timely and necessary and that it plays a key part in the Chinese side's trip to Southeast Asia.
