Wang Yi: In Terms of Complying with International Rules, the United States is the Country That Should Reflect on Most
2021-07-26 13:59

On July 26, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman in Tianjin. Sherman once again proposed that the so-called "rules-based international order" should be observed. Wang Yi retorted, what do the so-called "rules" of the United States refer to? If they refer to the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and international law, China has long clearly stated that all countries should abide by them. If they refer to the so-called "rules" formulated by the United States itself and a few countries, what is the reason for imposing them on China? China did not participate in the formulation, so why should China comply with them?

Wang Yi pointed out, when it comes to complying with international rules, the United States forcibly imposing high tariffs on China is an out-and-out violation of WTO rules. The various types of unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States on China are neither based on international law nor authorized by the UN Security Council, and are also typical violations of international rules. In terms of complying with international rules, the United States is the country that should reflect on most. The United States should take the lead in complying with international rules, not the other way around.
