On the evening of 14 April, President Xi Jinping spoke with President Sooronbay Sharipovich Jeenbekov of Kyrgyzstan on the phone.

Xi pointed out that the COVID-19 pandemic is posing a grave threat to people's life and health in many countries. At the most trying time of China's response to the outbreak, the Kyrgyz government sent medical supplies in a timely manner despite its own needs. The people of Kyrgyzstan stood with China and, with their heart-warming words and actions, provided great encouragement. The Chinese people cherish their brotherly friendship with the people of Kyrgyzstan, feel keenly for their current difficulties and stand with them in this hour of need. China will continue to do its best to help by sharing epidemic control experience and therapeutics and sending in medical experts as soon as possible. Xi expressed confidence that under the leadership of President Jeenbekov, Kyrgyzstan will prevail over the virus at an early date.

Xi noted that China and Kyrgyzstan, connected by mountains and rivers, are friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners. China will work with Kyrgyzstan in the spirit of building a human community with a shared future, strengthen solidarity, coordination and cooperation at the bilateral level and in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and jointly contribute to public health security and economic recovery around the world. The two sides need to enhance mutual support on issues touching each other's core interests and promote cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative and in other areas so as to take their comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

Jeenbekov expressed admiration for China's significant progress in epidemic control, its tremendous support for the global response and its leading role in the ongoing battle, pointing out that the virus once again highlights the urgency, relevance and timeliness of Xi's vision for a human community with a shared future. Jeenbekov thanked Xi for taking care of its citizens in China and providing valuable support and assistance for its fight against the outbreak. Kyrgyzstan will always be the most trustworthy friend and partner of the Chinese people and would like to deepen cooperation with China in agriculture and other areas, jointly advance the Belt and Road Initiative, and work together to realize the vision of a human community with a shared future.
