Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with U.S. Acting Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security, John Rood

On June 5, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with U.S. Acting Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security, John Rood. Yang made positive comments on Sino-U.S. relations, pointing out that under the current situation, China and the United States have increasing mutual benefit and a sphere of cooperation on issues such as international security, arms control and non-proliferation. Consultations on important issues of security are conducive to enhancing mutual trust and cooperation as well as improving the sound and stable development of the China-U.S. constructive and cooperative partnership, in a bid to safeguard global and regional peace and security, said Yang. Rood agreed with Yang's comments on China-U.S. relations and said that the two sides should increase coordination and cooperation on international peace and stability.

On the same day, Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, also met with Rood.

On June 4, Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei and Rood held the China-U.S. vice-ministerial consultations on strategic security, multilateral arms control and non-proliferation.
