Remark by Spokesperson of the Embassy of China in Belgium on the Adoption of a Xinjiang-Related Resolution by the Parliament of the French Community
2021-04-23 02:55

On April 21st, the Parliament of the French community of Belgium passed a Xinjiang-related resolution unfoundedly accusing China's Xinjiang of having "forced labor" and "re-education camps". The Chinese side firmly opposes and strongly condemns it.

China has repeatedly reiterated that Xinjiang affairs are purely China's internal affairs, and Xinjiang-related matters are not ethnic, religious, or human rights matters, but are counter-terrorism, de-radicalization, and anti-separatism matters. There is no such thing as the so-called "Uyghur people being detained" "forced labor" or "compulsory sterilization" in Xinjiang. Some anti-China think tanks and politicians in the United States and the West spread lies and disinformation about Xinjiang out of prejudice against China and for political purposes. These groundless accusations and defamation are a huge insult and offense to the Chinese people. Believing in all kinds of Xinjiang-related lies and false information and adopting a resolution to slander and condemn China are a further offense to the Chinese people.

The door of China's Xinjiang is always open. Earlier this month, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the ambassadors and diplomats of 21 countries to China visited Xinjiang. Based on their personal experience and what they saw, they expressed their understanding and support for Xinjiang’s counter-terrorism and de-radicalization efforts. They thought that the slander of Xinjiang by the anti-China forces in the United States and the West is groundless, and they all spoke highly of Xinjiang’s current economic stability, prosperity and unprecedented development achievements. At the same time, China welcomes the visit of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to Xinjiang, but the visit is not a so-called "investigation" based on the presumption of guilt. Any attempt to use this matter for political manipulation will never succeed.

It must be pointed out that the approach of the French Community Parliament to put pressure on China based on lies and false information will not work on China. We advise the relevant members of the Parliament to immediately stop using Xinjiang-related matters to engage in political manipulation and interfere in China's internal affairs, and stop doing things that harm China-Belgium cooperation.
