Q&A from Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Belgium on Some Belgian Media Reports about US Accusing Chinese "Hackers" of Cyber Theft
2020-07-25 22:33

Q: Recently, Belgian media reported that the US Department of Justice prosecuted two Chinese "hackers" for espionage, and mentioned that they had stolen industrial secrets from Belgian companies. What is the take of the Chinese side?

China is a victim of cyber attacks. PRISM and a series of other events in the past have shown that the United States has been conducting cyber theft on a scale larger than any other country. The United States groundlessly accusing other countries of cyber attacks is a typical example of a thief calling out to catch the thief. China urges the US to immediately stop slandering China on cyber security issues.

The Chinese government firmly safeguards cyber security and has always resolutely opposed and cracked down on any form of cyber attacks and cyber crimes. Maintaining cyber security is in the common interests of all countries. Cyberspace should not become a new battlefield. Those countries that seek cyber hegemony through the so-called "offensive cyber strategy" will only see their attempts backfire.

The Chinese Embassy in Belgium reiterates that accusations that China use "hackers" and overseas personnel and agencies to engage in "espionage" activities against other countries are purely fabricated. As we all know, in order to contain and curb China's development, the United States has used all means to make up lies and smear China. Its sinister intentions deserve high attention from all parties. No matter how many times a lie is repeated, it cannot become true. We have repeatedly emphasized that China has never posed any threat to Belgium. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations nearly 50 years ago, China and Belgium have always developed friendly and cooperative relations on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. The pragmatic cooperation between the two sides in various fields has always followed the principle of win-win results, complied with the laws and regulations of the two countries, remained open and transparent, and served the long-term interests of China and Belgium.
