Online quiz marks Sino-Belgium diplomatic ties anniversary
2011-09-07 01:59

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium this year, the embassy of Belgium Wednesday launched an online quiz with tempting prizes to promote better understanding of the western European country.

Hoping the quiz will give Chinese residents greater knowledge about the country, Belgian Ambassador to China Patrick Nijs emphasized that in addition to chocolate and beer, the country “has much more to offer.”

“The quiz, with 15 simple questions, gives you a glance of the arts, sports and lifestyle of Belgium,” Nijs said.

Participants in the quiz at belgiuminchina.org/quiz will have the opportunity to win a 350,000 yuan ($54,739) diamond, a 150,000 ($23,459) yuan all-expenses paid trip to Belgium, and a number of other prizes.

Economic and trade cooperation between China and Belguim has been fruitful since October 1971. Belgian companies were among the very first to enter into joint ventures on the Chinese mainland. Outbound investment from China has also found a steady destination in Belgium.

Premier Wen Jiabao paid an official visit to Belgium in October, meeting with King Albert II and Prime Minister Yves Leterme. The two sides held high-level exchanges, which further enhanced their mutual understanding and trust.

Next month, Royal Crown Prince Phillip will visit China with a large economic delegation that aims to further tighten and strengthen Belgian-Chinese ties.
