Application Notice to Foreign Journalists from the 2008 Beijing International Media Center

        I As a "home for journalists" from other countries and regions, the 2008 Beijing International Media Center (BIMC) will provide services to all non-accredited journalists representing foreign news organizations and the Beijing offices of foreign news organizations who have not obtained accreditation from the IOC but wish to cover the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

II Non-accredited journalists for the 2008 Olympic Games refer to the journalists who wish to cover the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing during the period from July 8th through October 17th, 2008 and have not obtained the "Olympic accreditation card" from the IOC.

III The non-accredited journalists are mainly media professionals with journalistic status, including journalists, photographers, radio and television journalists.

IV Application for non-accredited foreign journalists started on April 25th, 2008, and will end on May 20th, 2008. The BIMC will not accept any applications after the deadline.

V Application procedure

a. Non-accredited foreign journalists should register at the official website of the BIMC and fill up a form on line as required, download and print out a corresponding form, which shall be signed by the chief officers of their news organizations together with the relevant documents such as photocopies of the pages containing valid information on their passports (the passports shall not expire before December 31, 2008), registration certificates of, and brief introductions to, their news organizations (Chinese or English). The above documents should be mailed to the 2008 Beijing International Media Center via their resident offices in China if they have, or to the Chinese embassies or consulates in their respective countries if they have no resident offices in China.

Foreign journalists who have no access to the Web can apply to the Chinese embassies or consulates for such forms, fill up the relevant items, and mail them to the Chinese embassies or consulates in their respective countries together with the relevant documents such as photocopies of pages containing valid information on their passports, and registration certificates of their news organizations as required.

b. After receiving the confirmation letters from the 2008 Beijing International Media Center, Foreign journalists resident in China shall go to the 2008 Beijing International Media Center for accreditation and receive their cards by presenting their valid identity documents such as resident journalist visas (J-1 visa) and passports.

Foreign journalists not resident in China shall apply to the Chinese embassies or consulates in their countries for temporary journalist visas to China (J-2 visa), declare their equipment at the customs before entering China, and go to the 2008 Beijing International Media Center for accreditation and receive cards by presenting their valid identity documents such as temporary journalist visas (J-2 visa), and passports.

VI Non-accredited foreign journalists who come to Beijing to cover the Games should pay for their own expenses. The 2008 Beijing International Media Center shall provide information and other services including transportation, accommodation, catering, entertainment to them while they are in Beijing .
