Statement by the Spokesperson of the Embassy of China in Belgium on the Taiwan-related Resolution Adopted by the Belgian Federal Senate
2021-03-27 05:10

On March 26th, the Belgian Federal Senate passed a Taiwan-related resolution making irresponsible remarks on Taiwan-related matters and echoing the Taiwan authorities’ attempt to expand its “international space”. The Embassy strongly rejects, opposes and condemns this.

Taiwan has been an inalienable part of China since ancient times, and this has long become an international consensus. On China’s Taiwan region’s participation in activities of international organizations, China’s attitude is consistent and clear, That is, it must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle. Taiwan is not a sovereign state and has no right to participate in the WHO, ICAO or any other international organizations that are participated by sovereign states.

The one China principle is the political foundation of China-Belgium relations, and the Taiwan question is China’s internal affairs. China urges the Belgian Federal Senate to abide by the one China principle, stop interfering in China’s internal affairs, and refrain from doing anything that harms the development of bilateral relations.
